Easter Already?

It's that sweet, buttery, hot cross bunny time of year...

This Easter many of us were planning to catch up with friends or travel to favourite holiday places but instead will stay home to comply with COVID-19 Level 4 restrictions prohibiting socialising in person and travelling.

Luckily as part of the NZDatihg community you have a fun, safe place to stay home this Easter, eat loads of chocolate, and socialise freely online!

Happy Easter everyone

We thank you for your support,
The NZDating team.

NZDating Safety Tips Reminder

After 20+ years we know online dating is a safe and secure experience, but as in the 'offline' world there are certain precautions that should be taken when dealing with people you don't know well.

For general safety advice including offline activities please see our recently updated 'Your Safety' section, which includes new information on identifying scammers in and outside of NZ

To keep NZDating.com a safe and fun place to be, please do follow our safety tips.

Use Common Sense
While the vast majority of people using the internet are normal and law-abiding; you need to use common sense as you would anywhere else. Don't be overly paranoid but always stay alert. If something or someone sounds too good to be true they probably are. Remember your safety is far more important than one person's opinion of you.

Report commercial activity
On a dating and friendship site such as NZDating, there's no reason to discuss money - in fact it's strictly against the Terms of Use to conduct any commercial activity. If anyone attempts to discuss monetary transactions with you, please report it immediately using the 'report misuse' link and block the member - remember participating in commercial activity is also considered misuse and will result in your account being removed to prevent further misuse.

Regardless of the strength of your feelings towards someone you've been corresponding with online, as soon as you receive any form of request for money, use the reporting tools provided and cease any further communications with that person. A genuine relationship will survive without the need for money changing hands.

Common Traits of an Overseas Scammer Profile

  • They quickly want to share contact details away from NZDating using external email, chat or instant messenger
  • The photos used are of professional or near professional quality
  • They may claim to be born in the USA, UK, Canada or Australia but currently travelling or working overseas (often saying they're out of the country for work, business contract or military service)
  • They use broken english, or their advert text seems like it's too cliche or templated
  • They use emotional language too quickly, claiming love or a strong desire to meet you before they know you
  • They have plans to visit NZ, but at the last minute are prevented by a traumatic event or business deal gone sour and require payment
  • They may request a money transfer using Western Union as it's nearly impossible to reverse such transfers

Needy People Scams

The scammer tells you online they are having difficulties with their car, kids or family and wants to meet in person so may ask you for money to pay for petrol or fare to facilitate the meeting. They will use a variety of excuses to entice you to send funds, for example they haven't eaten in some time or have hungry children and ask you to deposit money into their bank account for food.
  • They will claim to need money for food, rent, transport costs etc
  • They will ask you to deposit money into a bank account or top up their phone
  • They communicate with urgency, wanting you to immediately send money
  • They may offer to pay the money back or to provide services or visit you in return for your payment
  • They use emotional language claiming a desire to meet you, but you must pay them first
DO NOT send money under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

If you become aware of any dubious activity...
...report it using the 'report misuse' link

Don't EVER pay any money!
